Business Development Manager, Commercial Mortgages

As a commercial mortgage originator you will be operating from our downtown Montreal Office, originating commercial mortgages for the Quebec market. The role aims to further CMLS' position as a leader in commercial mortgages and construction financing by proactively selling and marketing CMLS' full range of commercial lending options. Focused on real-estate investors, this role builds and maintains relationships.
 
Key Accountabilities:
  • Sources potential new commercial real estate finance opportunities;
  • Establishes and maintains a network of key contacts/resources to source potential new business opportunities for CMLS' full range of commercial mortgage products;
  • Develops and delivers related presentations to small and large groups to promote the CMLS brand and its services;
  • Actively seeks out and shares information regarding market changes and competitive activity that is utilized to develop key market strategies as well as legislative change;
  • Acts as representative for CMLS, liaising with internal stakeholders and with external influencers to achieve growth of business and to build strong ties in the business community;
  • Skilled in financial analysis to determine borrower lending options;
  • Orchestrates more complex negotiations to develop needs-based solutions and presents proposals to potential borrowers which effectively satisfy borrower needs within CMLS objectives;
  • Partners with the Analyst in completing mortgage presentations by assessing and preparing relevant information on borrower's behalf to permit due diligence for new deals and annual reviews.
 
Hiring Salary:   Competitive compensation package

QUALIFICATIONS
Education & Experience:
  • Completion of an undergraduate degree in of the following concentrations: finance, economics, urban land development, accounting or business administration;
  • A minimum of 3 years experience in either: commercial mortgage lending at a major Financial Institute, or commercial mortgage brokerage firm and sales activities or any other equivalent experience;
  • Applicants will require licensing as a mortgage or real estate broker in Quebec prior to filling the role.
 
Technical Competencies:
  • Relationship management skills including the ability to establish and maintain a network of key contacts, resources and also have the ability to attract new clients;
  • Demonstrates sales leadership;
  • Real-Estate knowledge with an emphasis on multi-family as well as, industrial, office and retail;
  • Strong underwriting skills of commercial mortgages and construction lending;
  • Demonstrates sales skills including knowledge and application of sales processes, tools and techniques;
  • Advanced ability to conduct credit analysis and be creative and flexible in structuring financial transactions;
  • Demonstrates ability to create and deliver business presentations, including experience with public speaking;
  • Intermediate computer skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and Internet.

Legal Assistant - Commercial Real Estate

The person in this role will be responsible for processing commercial mortgage loans including: set-up, payments, renewals and payouts. Other duties would include maintaining electronic and paper loan files and cultivating positive relationships with clients.

The ideal candidate will have related experience or have a post-secondary diploma lending itself to the role. Experience within the Commercial Real Estate industry would be an asset. Candidates with excellent written and verbal communication skills as well as proficient computer and word processing skills will be best suited for this position.

CMLS Mortgage Valuation is a leading provider of independent risk rating and mortgage pricing services for the commercial real estate finance industry in Canada. Our clients include some of Canada's most prominent banks, investment managers and pension funds. Our clients engage our risk rating and mortgage pricing services to support "mark to market" accounting, performance measurement, and portfolio valuation.
 
Major Accountabilities / Responsibilities:
  • Conduct risk analysis of various fixed income products secured by commercial real estate
  • Prepare annual risk rating reports, perform mortgage underwriting
  • Assist with the execution of mortgage valuation and pricing
  • Develop an expertise in the Commercial Mortgage sector in Canada
  • Address client investment and risk queries and respond to information requests as they relate to the sector
  • Assist with the collection of information required to complete annual risk ratings
  • Assist with the preparation of industry specific research reports
  • Maintenance of sector specific research databases
  • Assist with special projects as required.
 
Hiring Salary: Compensation is based on education and work experience.
Duration: May - August 2012, potentially May - December 2012
Reports To: Associate Director, Mortgage Valuation
 
Education / Experience:
  • Pursuing a Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Business Administration, or Real Estate
  • Previous work experience is an asset but not required
  • Desire to enter the CFA or AACI programs would also be a considered an asset.
